EELC seeks to promote awareness of and support for ethical responses to life-limiting illness, disability and suffering.

We see so-called "voluntary assisted dying" (VAD) in its various forms of assisted suicide or euthanasia as unethical, dangerous and harmful.

Our vision is an Australian society in which the dangers and harms of VAD are widely recognised, and where better, ethical solutions are upheld to care for and support persons living with illness, disability or suffering.

Our aims include:

• drawing attention to the dangers and harms of assisted suicide and euthanasia in all their forms
  
  
• promoting better ethical, compassionate and beneficial responses to terminal illness 
  
  
• improving the health literacy and understanding of health professionals, the public, MPs and policy makers about end of life care
  
  
• changing the culture in society and within public health services that promotes VAD as a “good” and seeks to impose its expansion
  
  
• providing support for the diverse range of health professionals and others who share our vision
  
  
• increasing the oversight of VAD and its safeguards and the accountability of practitioners and regulators
  
  
• seeking amendments to VAD legislation that will ameliorate its harms while it remains legal
  
  
• achieving comprehensive palliative care services around Australia.
